This offering from Ms. Kallmaker is a romance through and through. I really liked the main character, Rett. She is wonderfully flawed. She is beautiful, warm, intelligent and talented and was raised to believe she wasn't worth the space she took up on this earth. From the moment the novel begins, she asserts that she is of value and then proceeds to face all her demons. The fact that she is in an emotionally abusive relationship at the beginning of the book and comes to her senses, kicks the bum out and learns she is worth more is the best part of the book.

If you are going to find some demons, the best place to go is your high school reunion. The author uses this event as a great vehicle for Rett to reexamine her belief systems. The reunion brings her clarity and a sense of closure so that she can move forward into a relationship based on respect and deep love. The scene devoted to Rett confronting her parent is brilliantly written.

As for that relationship, well it was hard for me to believe that someone could still be pining away for their unrequited high school crush after 20 years. I didn't feel like I learned enough about Angel other than she is brilliant and great in the sack. There is backstory on her, but I wanted to know a little bit more about her.

Always love Karin's books! Never disappoints! Been a fan since waaay back when!!
I love reading the book. I loved every bit of it. I like the flow of the story, how believable the events seem to unfold and the characters were easy to relate to.
My first Karen Kallmaker book will not be my last! UNFORGETTABLE is the story of renown singer, Rett and the complicated issues she has in her life. Professional issues with her current partner, finding a good career path, the hot gal she falls for in a bar, Angel, the 20th reunion invitation and allure of high school and never forgotten flame Cinny, and the Martinella family with their famous doctor daughter. This story has twists and yet is so believable. Kallmaker knows how to keep your interest. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
One of the better Karin Kallmaker romances - but doesn' rank there with the real good stuff. I did like the human weaknesses of the characters though.
First, let me say that I really liked this book. It is on the strong end of the spectrum for books in the lesbian romance genre. However, after reading the reviews here I was expecting a much stronger book, and story. What I got instead was a pretty good book and story, which is fine so long as you don't expect more. There are better books out there, and perhaps even by this author (I have not read her other work).
Karin Kallmaker has a knack for characters. In this novel, specifically, there are quite a few appealing ones. The story is fun and undemanding, and has a few interesting twists. However, whether I would recommend this really does depend on what you want from your stories. For all its emotional moments and some of the subject matter, "Unforgettable" never quite got below the surface for me. In addition, it has a couple of elements that I don't really enjoy as a reader (unrealistic ratio of gay people, soulmate-ish feeling) so while I would recommend Kallmaker in general, this wouldn't be my first pick.
This story touched me. What a beautiful storyline. It had its sweet romantic moments. Yes, it had its share of sad moments too to be sure, and I had to reach for my Kleenex several times, but that's what makes a story so good. It's depth of emotion and the detail in which the author can relay those emotions to the reader through the words on the page. It's one of the many reasons I keep coming back to Karin Kallmaker for more. She is one of the Best in my opinion.
I love that the women, even though flawed, are strong and stick to their convictions and never give up. That's something I've always tried to model my life after as well. As hard as it is, it's always the best path to choose. You will Never go wrong, if you Never give in and Never give up on yourself.
Ms. Kallmaker always has a way of bringing us unique stories and interesting characters with plenty of fun and humor with a life lesson thrown in. The intellectual side of my brain loves that when I'm reading a romance novel. I love having my thoughts challenged. Especially by such talented and gifted writers as Ms. Kallmaker.
I won't go into the play by play juicy details of the story, as a lot of the other reviewers have seen to that. I just wanted it to be said that this is a Beautiful story not to be missed with an amazing soundtrack that I found myself going to my iPod to crank the tunes on while I read. Unforgettable music, unforgettable story, unforgettable author....buy the book! ; )
